The Trenton Community A-TEAM supports, develops, and promotes self-taught, local artists because art can be transformative by reframing the artist's connectedness to self and others and by enhancing community pride.

“When I’m doing art, I feel perfect”

— Herman “Shorty” Rose

Founding member of TCAT

In 2000, five artists at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) formed an artist cooperative, open to all self-taught artists who lacked the personal resources to pursue their creative activities. Known as the A-TEAM Artists of Trenton, the group offered artists an environment in which to hone their talents and sell their artwork.

The A-TEAM grew quickly in number and reputation and in July 2014, the group gained (501)(c)(3) tax exempt status for their unique collaboration.

Having added community service to its mission, the A-TEAM became known as the Trenton Community A-TEAM (TCAT), and in 2015 additional studio space was secured from isles, Inc.
